Investigators tied the bombing to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a terrorist group based in Syria?s capital, Damascus, and which claimed responsibility for the attack. Lawyers for the Wultz family presented evidence that the group has received financing and other support from both the Iranian and Syrian governments over the years ? making them liable for Daniel?s death.

The lawsuit was brought under a special provision of federal law that allows U.S. citizens to bring claims against foreign governments for terrorist acts. Some $300 million of the judgment was in punitive damages designed to punish Iran and Syria for their roles in the bombing.

?When a state chooses to use terror as a policy tool ? as Iran and Syria continue to do ? that state forfeits its sovereign immunity and deserves unadorned condemnation,? U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth wrote in his order on Monday ? six years to the day after Daniel Wultz died from his injuries after 27 days in the hospital. ?Barbaric acts like the April 17, 2006, terrorist bombing have no place in civilized society.?

In court papers, a lawyer for the Syrian government ? former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark ? called the lawsuit ?baseless? and said the suit violated the United Nations charter.

The Wultz family has already established a nonprofit foundation in Daniel?s name, aimed at combating terrorism and promoting tolerance. But collecting the judgment could prove difficult.

Though federal law allows plaintiffs in some cases to collect from any assets frozen in the United States belonging to nations that sponsor terrorism, the plaintiffs typically run into roadblocks in collecting, according to a 2005 congressional report. Both Iran and Syria have been hit with other large judgments in U.S. courts in recent years.

?We are very hopeful that we will be able to find assets? of Iran and Syria to satisfy the judgment, said Robert Tolchin, an attorney for the Wultz family.

Russian literature plays a fundamental role for the understanding of Russian culture, language, history and society. The academic staff in Russian literature/culture at UiT wish to uphold a complete study in Russian literature through a close cooperation with studies in language and political science. Courses in literature are supposed to serve as a satisfactory foundation for specializing within Russian literature and at the same time support language-studies as well as the understanding of Russian culture and society, history and the present, in a broader perspective.

The academic staff in Russian literature/culture have responsibility for teaching Russian literature/culture within the Bachelor program in Language and Literature, the Master program in Russian Literature, the Bachelor program in Language and Economics and also within the multidisciplinary Bachelor- and Master program in Russian Studies.

The person appointed to the position must take part in the compulsory teaching of Russian literature/culture at all levels (bachelor, master and PhD), and applicants should document broad scientific qualifications within these fields.

Qualification requirements
The general requirement for appointment as a professor is an academic level conforming to established international or national standards within Russian literature/culture. In order to be awarded a professorship, applicants shall be able to document substantially more extensive research of high quality than that required to attain a doctorate degree.

For appointment as f?rsteamanuesis (Associate Professor), the applicant requires:
? Norwegian doctoral degree in the subject area concerned or a corresponding foreign doctoral degree recognised as equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree
or
? competence at a corresponding level documented by academic work of the same scope and quality

Further, applicants must be able to document teaching qualifications in the form of university-level teaching seminars, other teaching education or through having developed a teaching portfolio. Alternatively, after carrying out an assessment of the applicant?s practical teaching skills, the committee may determine that this may be regarded as of equal value to formal teaching qualifications. As a norm the time resources spent on administrative duties constitutes 5 % for academic staff in this category of position.

Assessment
The applicants will be assessed by an expert committee. The committee?s mandate is to undertake an assessment of the applicants? qualifications based on the written material presented by the applicants, and the detailed description drawn up for the position.

The applicants who are assessed as the best qualified will be called to an interview. The interview shall among other things aim to clarify the applicant?s personal suitability for the position. A trial lecture may also be held.

In the event that there are no suitably qualified applicants for the position, an interim appointment for a period of no more than three years may be made, cf. Section 5 no. 1 of the regulations appurtenant to the Civil Service Act and Section 6-5; subsection 1 of the Act relating to universities and university colleges. A permanent appointment shall be made upon application before the three-year period elapses based on a new assessment. The appointment will become permanent in the event that the applicant is found to be suitably qualified.

On Sunday I turned 32 *blows party horn* – hurrah! And what better way to celebrate than to head down to the local “Wellness” (sorry, I can’t bare that word and do not accept it as proper English, so have to put it in inverted commas) Centre and get naked with lots of unknown Czech men and women!

Well, that wasn’t my ultimate plan. I shall start from the beginning. Having been away for a couple of weekends, I decided it would be nice to spend my birthday weekend in Brno. On Saturday we went to the ?pilberk Food Festival. Sadly, the weather was chilly, windy and rainy so I couldn’t take the sort of photos I had wanted to. Instead, I decided to tuck into all the fabulous food that I could and try a good selection of wines. You will just have to take my word for it that it all looked and tasted delicious! This was the first Food Festival in Brno and I hope they put it on again next year, as it was a great opportunity to try small, yet excellent dishes from some top-notch restaurants in Brno.

On Sunday, we had a lovely birthday brunch at home. My OH bought me a nice bottle of Mucha Sekt, which we made Buck’s Fizz out of and drank with sweet things to start off with: yoghurt, raisin brioche and melon and later had scrambled eggs with sausages and baguette. Scrumptious.

Fortified with food and wine, we set off on the tram to Hotel Santon. It is situated next to the Lake in Bystrc. From the outside it doesn’t look like much (a bit communist-era), but once inside the “Wellness” area is very modern and has clearly been recently refurbished. I decided to book in for a 30 minute massage (bliss), a 20 minute private jacuzzi session?(invigorating)?followed by 90 minutes in the sauna and pool area (aaah and argh!).

Before we went there, I had of course shaved my legs in preparation. However, it suddenly occurred to me, that it might be customary to be naked in the sauna in the Czech Republic. This only sprung to mind, as I had once had a funny experience in Germany with a friend where we both turned up at the spa only to be told that we could not possibly wear our swimming costumes, “as this would offend others”. Sure enough, when we went to the saunas at Hotel Santon (of which there are 4) there was a little “no swimming costumes” sign on the door. You are expected to remove your swimwear and wrap a sheet around yourself, which they provide. Once inside the sauna, you sit naked upon your sheet.

The saunas are mixed, but personally I don’t have a problem with this. Many Brits, and I think Americans, would find it unthinkable to sit naked in a sauna with unknown chaps and chapettes, but you soon realise that there is nothing sexual or seedy about the environment. It is a normal and healthy thing in Germany and the Czech Republic to be naked and have no qualms about it when relaxing and enjoying health treatments.

The saunas were very good: one very hot and very dry one (Finsk?), one less hot and dry one, one very humid one (Tropick?) and another one outside with a big dish of lavender oil in the middle. This one was opposite the ice cold plunge pool, so I braved it and jumped straight in afterwards. Gasp, gasp!

We both had a really nice afternoon at the spa and I would definitely recommend it if you are looking for somewhere quieter and reasonably priced. I was worn out from all this relaxation and promptly fell asleep when I got home – a sleepy but happy birthday girl.
